Cheddar is a large village with a population of five thousand seven hundred people and is situated to the south of the Mendip hills in Somerset.
The popular variety of Cheddar cheese is named after this village as diary farming and cheese making took place here as early as 1170 AD.
The Cheddar Valley Railway opened the way for tourism to flourish and is popularly called the Strawberry line, as it passes several strawberry fields on the southwest slopes of the Cheddar Valley.
The climate is dry and cool. During Christmas, the village is filled with choirs and bands, fireworks and Christmas trees with decorative lights. The pubs, shops and cafes are open until late at night and the festive atmosphere is enjoyed by all.
There are a number of cottages, Inns and guest houses offering accommodation in scenic surroundings.
