The meeting point of old and new Cornwall, St Austell is larger than other towns of Cornwall.
The city has a population of 22,658 which is more than the population of the county’s capital.

The place is also notable for its industrial archaeology and Stone Age.
Being the southernmost part of England, the winters are mild. Summers are relatively sunny and warm with over 1541 hours of sunshine per year. The mild, moist westerly winds from the Atlantic Ocean cause relatively high rainfall.
The main industry of the city is the China Clay industry employing over 3,000 people. However, now the industry is encompassing more creative industries like graphic design, photography, architecture and arts.
