Torpoint lies on a peninsula in the south east of Cornwall, across the Tamar River in UK.
The town has a total population of 8,457 as per the 2001 census. The town is said to have been given the name from Tar Point which was the former industry situated on the bank of the Hamoaze here.
The existence of the Devenport Dockyard here helped in the growth of the town as the workers settled in the area. After the development of the Royal Navy training centre the number of inhabitants further increased.
The town is in a beautiful setting and has a temperate climate with mild winters and warm summers. The humidity levels are high which brings high amounts of rainfall.
Although there are not many places to stay in the town one can seek accommodation in nearby areas such as Cawsand Bay and Kingsand. These provide a number of self catering options for tourists.
