The River Tame flows through this town and hence the name. The River Anker also flows through this town.

Tamworth is separated from Birmingham city center by 22 Kms and from London by 165 Kms.

As per the 2001 census, the population of this town was 74,531.

This town has many sports clubs like Tamworth, Mile Oak Rovers, Dosthill Colts, Bolehall Swifts (all Football) and Tamworth (Rugby).
