The Museum of the Jewellery Quarter is actually nothing but an old Jewellery factory, which is now a centre displaying the artistic precision and craft of the jeweller.
This was the jewellery factory owned by the Smith and Pepper families, about 80 years ago.
The ‘time capsule’ workshop has captured every detail of the time when jewellery was produced here and it is like stepping into the past.
Not a thing has been changed, not even the tea mugs of the jewellers, since production at the factory stopped in 1981.
Guides explain the exact method in which jewellery was made at the factory.
Many jewellery shops are lined up on the street outside the museum, offering many different designs and bargains for the jewellery shopper.
You can also ask for jewellery to be made to your own design. You can also avail of the taped guided tours in many different languages and pick up souvenirs and books on the history of the museum.
