Craven Arms was formed relatively recently. It was mentioned as a small town called ‘Newton’ in the 1695 map of this area. This civil parish consists of two smaller older parishes named Halford and Stokesay.
Stokesay is famous for Stokesay Castle. The castle is a fortified manor house which is the oldest of its type. It dates back to the 12th century and is listed in the English Heritage list.
The castle is well preserved by the authorities. It is surrounded by lush green landscapes and beautiful gardens. The Castle and the surrounding area offer breathtaking views.
One can see the age old St John’s church in the village. There are a few houses and one working farm, which remind one of the old English towns.
Tourists visiting this town can explore nearby destinations as well. The larger town of Shrewsbury is located within easy reach of the village. Shrewsbury Castle is a famous tourist spot in this area. It is a nice example of the Norman Castle.
The Land of Lost Content is a National Museum of British Popular Culture situated in Craven Arms. It holds a huge collection of artefacts that reflect the history of the town. There is a Mickey Millers Family Play Barn located on Watling Street. Children are happy to visit here.
