The Royal Shakespeare Theatre is dedicated to the world famous poet and playwright William Shakespeare.
Stratford-Upon-Avon is in fact William Shakespeare's birthplace.
The theatre is owned by the Royal Shakespeare Company. The brilliant structure of the theatre overlooks the beautiful surroundings of the River Avon and the city around it.
The theatre is a reconstruction of the original Shakespeare Memorial Theatre. It which was opened in 1879, destroyed by fire in 1926. The new theatre, with a new name, was built in 1932.
This theatre hosts a large number of shows throughout the year. It has a proscenium arch stage. The theatre has a seating capacity for 1,500 people.
Visitors can take a view of various sections in this theatre. The Backstage Tours take the visitors to the working places of theatre.
There is a restaurant, gift shop and a bar inside. Visitors can learn about the history of the theatre through various museums in the city.
