The Bancroft Gardens, located on the bank of the river Avon and in front of the world famous Royal Shakespeare Theatre, attracts many visitors yearly. It was built in 1826 on an area of land where town people grazed their animals. The garden was refilled in 1902. The gardens occupy the site of former, canal wharves, and warehouses. The statue of Shakespeare is the work of Lord Ronald Sutherland Gower and presented to the town in 1888. It is one of the best places in this city.
