Kirkstall Abbey is actually the ruins of a Cistercian monastery. It is located in the western region of Leeds.

The magnificent ruins overlook the scenic views around the River Aire. The land, atop of which the abbey stands, is now converted into a beautiful park.

Visitors get a blended experience of historical architecture and enchanting natural surroundings. The mysterious ruins of the abbey are located amidst lush green surroundings dotted with wildlife.

To learn more about the abbey and its past, tourists can visit the visitor’s centre. A historical treasure of knowledge is stored in the Abbey House Museum, which lies opposite the abbey ruins. The construction work of the abbey lasted for more than 30 years, from 1152 to 1182.

The abbey displays the life of monks in the 12th century. Visitors can see the places where the monks prayed, cooked, ate and slept. Visiting the abbey is altogether an enchanting experience for a visitor.
