South Bank can be referred to as a tiny town located in ‘North Yorkshire’. Moreover, it’s a portion of Middlesbrough ‘Urban region’ which lies at a distance of ‘2.3’ miles from center, within England’s north-eastern part.
From the name, it’s evident that it’s placed on River Tees’ South Bank. ‘South Bank Railway Station’ serves it.
South Bank is known for steel-making; thanks to companies ‘Bolckow and Vaughan’ and ‘Dorman Long’. As far as ship-building is concerned, ‘Smiths Dock Company’ deserves a round of applaud.
Till the year 1918, this town was a portion of Middlesbrough constituency.
The population of South Bank is 7800, as per census carried out off late. As such, this place had contributed a lot towards the growth of ship building industry all over the world.
However, the era lasted only till the year 1986. 15th of October was the day when the final ship got launched from ‘Smith’s Dock’.
