Ballycastle: Attractions and more...

Holy Trinity

The Holy Trinity or Church of Ireland is located in the Diamond which is the main square. The church completed its construction in the year 1756 and was built by Colonel Hugh Boyd. The church was built in the Graeco-Italian style along with an octagonal spire about 100 feet high and apse- shaped chancel. Initially only the Boyd descendents were allowed to visit and use the church later on in the year 1950 the church was given to Ireland. The church is open daily between 09:00 to 17:00.

Kinbane Castle

This castle is located on a headland which is projecting into the sea and is at a distance of 3 miles from the Ballycastle on the road to the Ballintoy. This was originally a two storey building which was built by Colla MacDonnell in the year 1547.

Bonamargy Friary

This is a late Franciscan foundation which was established by Rory MacQuillan in the year 1485 and is located off the Cushendall Road on the way to Ballycastle. There are locked vaults which hold the remains of Sorley Boy MacDonnell and several other earls of Antrim.
