Introduction

Holywood: Attractions and more...
The Maypole is the famous culture in the centre of the town, which dates back to the 1700 according to local folklore. The Maypole is still used for dancing at the annual Mayday Fair. Redburn Country Park is set on an escarpment over looking Belfast Lough. It includes the mature beech woods and the scrub and grasslands at the top of the hill. Redburn provides pleasant walks in all seasons but spring is the best time to see the spectacular woodland carpet of bluebells, wood sorrel and anemones.
Holywood is famous for its maypole at the crossroads in the centre of town. Holywood Maypole, one of the very few to be found in Northern Ireland, is situated at the junction of High street and shore street. The maypole is still used for dancing at the annual May Day fair. The Ulster Folk and Transport Museum illustrating the way of life and traditions of the people of Ulster is nearby, at Clutra.
