Aberdeen Art Gallery
This popular city gallery, opened in 1885, is housed in impressive marble halls
and offers stunning examples of work by the Impressionists and Scottish Colourists
as well as modern art.
Lemon Tree
The Lemon Tree is bursting with activity every day of the week. Music is the
staple diet of this two-auditorium complex, though not to the exclusion of theatre, dance,
comedy and kids’ shows. Add a café with a cosmopolitan menu and
you have something for everyone.
Aberdeen Maritime Museum
Housed in an eclectic collection of historical and modern buildings and commanding
fine views over the harbour, Aberdeen Maritime Museum is a one-stop shop for
knowledge on how generations of Aberdonians have ventured out in all weathers
to seek a living on the deep.
Dunnottar Castle
Undoubtedly one of the most spectacular castles in Scotland, Dunnottar
is just 15 miles south of Aberdeen. Three precipitous sides of sea-cliffs made
the 9th century fortress virtually impregnable, and the castle is still only
accessible by a steep winding path.
Silver Darlings
When Didier Dejean established his French seafood restaurant on the Aberdeen
quayside he set a standard for the region that no one has yet managed to match,
let alone beat. The menu depends on the day’s catch as well as the season
and you can enjoy the stunning harbour views as you dine.
One Up Records
This is is the place to go for the latest sounds, be they chart favourites or
obscure indie releases. Celebrating its 25th year in business, One Up has a
loyal following and is now firmly part of the Aberdeen establishment, with two
retail floors at its headquarters in the heart of the city.
Castlegate
The castle used to host market stalls selling fish, meat and vegetables and
was once the life and economy of the city. It has long since been demolished
and instead of market stalls there are galleries, restaurants and bars, though
the old market cross
still stands.
Revolution
A pacesetter for style bars in Aberdeen. It combines intimacy with weekend crowds
by having a smaller entrance area, which leads onto a much larger room out back.
Revolution has also grasped the capricious nature of the Scottish weather –
the entrance has an open fire, while there’s an outdoor patio at the back.
Summer Activities
The Cairngorms are like a big, tall adventure playground for grown-ups. There
are lots of exciting active pursuits to try out. In the Summer why not try buggy
riding, mountain biking? How about canoeing and kayaking in the areas stunning
rivers? Alternatively there’s kite surfing or indeed regular surfing at
Balmadie Beach. Climbing’s an obvious one too – get to the top of
Scolty (just outside the city) and you’ll be rewarded with a peach of
a view. To view some activity providers in the area
