Most of the larger villages on the island are found along the coast. Brodick, the main village, is known for its medieval castle, the Brodick Castle. The castle has on display a large collection of antiques, paintings and other collectors’ pieces; it also has a garden with plants from different regions of the world. The nearby Isle of Arran Heritage Museum has portrayed life on the island for many centuries. Goat Fell, the highest point on the island, can be accessed by a winding path through the castle gardens. The long uphill walk is well worth it for the view.
Holy Isle is a short ferry ride from Brodick. It carries the Buddhist influence, and many sacred caves and examples of Buddhist art can be found here. The picturesque village of Lochranza with its medieval castle; the Standing Stones, from the Stone Age, near the village of Tormore; the beautiful Whitning Bay; and the beaches of Kildonan and Pirnmill, are the other points of interest.
