In Scotland, close to the head of Loch Long in Argyll and Bute, lies a village called as Arrochar. Close to this village is a group of mountains named as Arrochar Alps. The Cobbler is a distinctive rocky summit in these mountains. Arrochar lies at the junction of the A83 and A814 roads. It can be reached by train and one has to get down at the Arrochar and Tarbet railway station. Two miles towards the East of Arrochar lies the A82 road that runs through Tarbet.
In 1996, the entire region of Arrochar was included into Argyll and Bute. The reason was that the peripheries of West Dunbartonshire and Argyll and Bute were considerably redrawn. In the past, the traditional boundary of Dunbartonshire and Argyllshire was represented by the western region of Arrochar.
Arrochar can be looked upon as a twin town with Tarbet, which is 1.5 miles to the East of Loch Lomond. Arrochar and Tarbet are connected by a low valley which has been used for centuries to drag boats between Loch Lomond and the sea.
