Duart Castle is situated almost 3 miles from Craignure. This place has been the residence of the Macleans since 1360 when Margaret, the daughter of the Lord of the Isles, married Lachlan Lubanach Maclean, the fifth chief. Margaret’s dowry was the Duart Castle and the surrounding islands. Further, Maclean constructed the outside of the existing courtyard, the keep on the outside and enclosed the well.
