The name ‘Cumbernauld’ has been derived from ‘comar nan allt’, a ‘Scots Gaelic’; which means ‘meeting of the waters’ as from the geographic point of view, streams flow from west to east.
Cumbernauld has 2 football teams- First division side Clyde based at ‘Broadwood Stadium’, and Cumbernauld United, i.e. ‘Junior Football side’; who go on to play at ‘Guy’s Meadow’. This town also boasts of a ‘Rugby Team’, called Cumbernauld RFC. Motorway links in the vicinity are inclusive of M8, M74, M73, M876, M80, and M9.
