Falkirk: Attractions and more...

Attractions in and about Falkirk include the remnants of the Antonine wall, the Callendar House and the Falkirk Wheel. Falkirk also has two railway stations Falkirk High and Falkirk Grahamston. Apart from the railway station the biggest attraction of Falkirk town are the vital Belt of Scotland’s major canals. In 1790 the 4th and Clyde Canal was inaugurated and permitted ships to cruise the 35 miles. En path they agreed to 40 locks and 32 hanging bridges.

The Union Canal was the second major canal, which was inaugurated in 1822. Its construction developed in Edinburgh and grew a line of 73m over sea level for round about 30 lock-free miles throughout the coalfields.

The Union Canal was planned to provide Falkirk. At the city both the canals were connected by a ladder of 11 locks which permitted the boats on the Clyde and Forth Canal to mount the 35m level of the Union Canal. On the fourth month after the canal was inaugurated it was voted as the top seventh water ways of the United Kingdoms.
