Tourist guide Fort William

Fort William is the largest town in the West Highlands of Scotland. With a population of around 10,000, the town is a popular tourist destination due to close proximity to the Glen Nevis and Ben Nevis Mountains. Earlier called Gordonsburgh and then Duncansburgh, Fort William is the starting point of various excursions to the nearby mountains.

The region experiences a temperate, maritime climate with temperatures varying from mild to extreme in the same day. Heavy snowfall is recorded with rainfall being distributed evenly throughout. The climate in this region is conducive to the local economy.

Historically, the region has been the site of many wars during World War II. Owing to Ben Nevis Mountains situated here, it has become a centre for outdoor activities. The sources of employment are aluminium, paper and tourism.
