The Gatehouse of Fleet is a small town in the estates of the Dumfries and Galloway region in Scotland. It is a town that stands firm on the basics of culture and tradition. This town was set up in the mid 17th century and now holds the second oldest population if taken on an average scale. The climate here is hot during summer but the winters are not so harsh. The temperatures go up to 45 degrees during the summers. It lies on the roadways from Dumfries and Stanraer and also faces the Wigtown Bay from one side. The town is faced directly against the waters of the bay; hence it was named ‘Gateway of Fleet’ because of the River Fleet found at its mouth. Cotton growing and related industries are the big commercial trading businesses here. There are a variety of cotton mills and most of the population is engrossed in this activity. This place owes its development status to James Murray, an entrepreneur who insisted in the building of hotels in this place.
