Rogano
A Glasgow institution since the 1930s, Rogano is a landmark as much for its
interior design and atmosphere of old-style luxury, as for its famous seafood.
Rogano has seen the rise and fall of many gastronomically ambitious and acclaimed
Glasgow restaurants, but never gone out of fashion itself.
House For An Art Lover
Standing alone in Bellahouston Park the House for an Art Lover is the most recent
addition, having been constructed in 1996 following plans Mackintosh submitted
in 1901 to a German architectural competition. Perhaps the purest expression
of Mackintosh’s genius for creating domestic paradises.
The Burrell Collection
This astonishing art collection, a lifetime’s legacy gifted by Sir William
Burrell, has played no small part in Glasgow’s artistic renaissance since
the opening of the gallery in 1983. The Burrell was purpose-built to suffused
with natural light from the surrounding green space of Pollok Country Park.
Princes Square, Glasgow
Buchanan Street is where the elite meet for some retail therapy. The up market
names you’ll find in Princes Square include the Italian accessories giant
Furla, Lacoste, Whistles, Raspberry Ripple, Ted Baker, Jo Malone and Links of
London. Cool furniture and furnishings from Denmark can be found at Bo Concept,
while Linn Shop will kit you out with a top-of-the-range home-entertainment
system.
The Loft
Ashton Lane is the heart of Glasgow’s West End. All year round it is a
haven for good eats and drinks and the Loft, the converted upper story of the
Grosvenor Cinema, is one of the most character of the venues on offer. It is
a favourite after work venue for young professionals,
stays lively until midnight and fills up to the brim at weekends.
The Lighthouse
Mackintosh’s building, has been elaborately adapted and blended with the
glass and steel idiom of the 21st century to make this exciting exhibition space.
The Lighthouse runs about 12 to 15 exhibitions a year and provides educational
resources to interest the public in issues of architecture, art and design.
Glasgow's West End
With its plethora of cafés, restaurants and bars, the West End of this
fine Victorian city is a haven for students, lecturers and Glasgow’s trendsetters.
But the area around Byres Road, Dumbarton Road and Great Western Road also caters
generously for shoppers in search of familiar high street fashion names or those
on the hunt for something a little different. Ashton Lane hosts a
number of watering holes to finish off the day.
Festival of Contemporary Visual Art
Glasgow’s first curated and commissioning Festival of Contemporary Visual
Art will take place in April this year. It celebrates and supports the continued
growth and achievements of Glasgow’s visual arts sector. The programme
aims to reflect the position of Glasgow as a centre for production and exhibition
of internationally significant visual art.
Outdoor Activities
Around thirty minutes from the city, you’re on the banks of Loch Lomond.
The beautiful scenery make this an ideal spot for cycling, walking, watersports
and horseriding. Ben Lomond offers excellent hill walking and the opportunity

Indoor Activities
Even in the winter you can have a go at climbing. Glasgow Climbing Centre, house
in a converted church just ten minutes from the city centre, caters for both
beginners and more advanced climbers. There are almost 200 graded routes to
choose from.
