Glenrothes can be referred to as a former ‘new town’ located in center of ‘Fife’, within east-central part of Scotland. The year 1948 witnessed the establishment of Glenrothes; under ‘New Towns Act of the year 1946’. The purpose behind it was to house all those workers who were supposed to work with respect to main coal mine, i.e. Rothes Colliery. The above-mentioned Colliery had to be closed down within four years (of opening) owing to geological and flood issues. GDC, i.e. Glenrothes Development Corporation, however, attained success in attracting contemporary electronics companies for locating themselves in this town; thereby having made Glenrothes a significant hub within Silicon Glen of Scotland. In the year 1975, it went on to become Fife’s administrative capital comprising of both, Fife Constabulary and Fife Council HQ.
Temperatures over here’ just like remaining part of Scotland, are comparatively moderate; considering northern latitude.
Population as per 2006 estimate was 38927.
