The Highland Council Area in Scotland has a town named as Grantown-on-Spey. It is situated almost 20 miles towards the South East of Inverness. By road, this distance is 35 miles. Grantown-on-Spey is at the northern edge of the Cairngorm Mountains on the banks of the River Spey. In 1765, this town was established as a planned settlement on the low plateau at Freuchie. It is proposed to extend the line of a heritage railway called as Strathspey Railway to Grantown-on-Spey. The closest stations on the main line are Elgin, Carrbridge and Aviemore. Grantown-on-Spey is a destination for numerous international and national charter and touring services. The bus services in Grantown-on-Spey serve several surrounding places but mainly concentrate on the route to Aviemore. There are several churches in the town but none of these have a burial ground. The Highland Council has maintained two local cemeteries called as Inverallan and Grantown.
The population of Grantown-on-Spey as per the 2001 census was 2166.
