Inverness: Attractions and more...

Inverness has monuments dating back to the Bronze Age. The oldest sites are the Stones of Clava, a group of standing stones from the prehistoric times, and a 2,000-year-old fort at Craig Phadrig. Take a walking tour of ‘Churches along the River’, which is a self-tour marked on a map; it takes you through nine churches of different traditions, histories and styles of architecture. There are several islands in the River Ness which can be easily explored on foot along the city riverside.

The seaside town of Nairn is in the vicinity and is popular with visitors for its long stretches of beaches and clean coasts. The beautiful and historic town of Beauly is also in the vicinity; it is known for its ancient priory and speciality shops.

Loch Ness is not very close to Inverness but is well-worth a visit for the majestic ruins of Urquhart Castle and the Loch Ness Visitor Centre to learn more about the legend of Nessie the Monster.
