Prestwick is a town in South Ayrshire which is located on the south coast of Scotland at a distance of about 48 km south west of Glasgow. Adjoining this is a larger town, Ayr, which is approximately at a distance of 3 km south from its center. Prestwick originally was an outlying farm of a religious house. Its locating coordinates are 55.495551ºN and 4.61416ºW respectively. Prestwick being close to the sea experiences a relatively cold climate besides a regular drizzle of rain. As a result of a research by the Scotland government in 2006 Prestwick has a population of around 14,680.
Prestwick is famous for being the home of Open Golf. The world's first open golf championship was played at Prestwick old course in the year 1860. The town also has two renowned open golf courses namely St. Nicholas and St. Cuthbert’s. Prestwick lies on the A79 Road. The easiest way to reach it is via A77 trunk road which connects Glasgow and Stranraer. It can also be reached by A78 Ayrshire coastal route.
