Scotland has an open mixed economy which is keenly linked with the economy of England. The economy was traditionally dominated by heavy industry. With de-industrialisation, the economy has become service oriented. Scotland’s primary exports include whisky, electronics and financial services.
Scotland may be found expensive by some but is at par with most western countries. Hostels and campsites cost around £7–15 a night, while a hotel can cost anything above £23.
