These are the most important East Slavic monasteries. These caves monasteries are located beside the River Dnieper. The monastery is named ‘caves’, since the monks used to use the caves as their cells. Later on the caves were used as burial tombs.
The caves monastery is a famous holy place in Ukraine. Visitors should not forget to visit Perchersk Lavra along with the caves monastery. It is a charismatic combination of gold domes, fabulous churches and mesmerizing art. One can see the graves of several saints belonging to the Russian Orthodox Church here.
