Try not to get in trouble with them and if caught never show your important documents, also see that the matter is settled with a fine or payment of some money rather than submitting your passport.

Taxi drivers can charge you double rates if they know that you do not speak their language and are new to the place so it is best to find the rate in advance which is about five to ten dollars for shorter distances.

Be cautious while using ATM cards as several tourists have been duped while using ATMs in the city.

Although Kiev is a safe and friendly city, it would be best to use commonsense precautions while traveling in subways or crowded areas as there may be thefts just like in any other big city.
