The Old Town in Lviv is a cultural and historical centre of the city. Since 1998 the Old Town has been listed as part of the World Heritage by UNESCO.
The reason for this is that the town displays a harmonious blend of European artistic traditions, especially from Germany and Italy. The role played by the city of Lviv in the commercial and political scene brought a number of different religious, cultural and ethnic groups to the city which can still be seen today.
There is a lot to see in the Old Town including the Main Square called Plac Rynoc where there are a number of churches, traditional houses from the 16th century and a Town hall which gives excellent views of the city from the top.
The Lviv train station building and the Opera building are other interesting places to see too.
