Barrow-in-Furness is around 20 minutes from the Lake District. It is referred to as a ‘gateway to the lakes’. There is the new marina complex and planned cruise ship terminal for the tourists to enjoy their vacation. One can visit the Dock Museum, which showcases the history of the town’s ship building process, and also gallery space to the local artists and school children. This museum is built upon and around the old graving dock. There is also the indoor market which has a food hall and stalls that sell clothes and other goods too.

There is also the Lake District’s premier shopping town with big name shops that mingle with small local shops and which are also home to Portland Walk Shopping Center.

The town has a Hollywood Park which provides a leisure facility with shops, restaurants and Cumbria’s largest cinema. Further, there are retail parks like the Park Leisure Center which is a fitness suite with a pool.
