Essex Wildlife Trust
The Essex Wildlife Trust is located on Lower Dunton Road in Basildon. Here, one can find meadows, woodlands and lakes spread over an area of 461 acres. The visitors can move around in this region by foot, on horseback or using bikes. There is a visitor center where refreshments are available. During school holidays, certain activities for children are carried out. One can also see a house that dates back to the 1930s. Throughout the year, self guided walks, activity packs and kids activity booklets are available.
Thorndon Country Park
One can reach the Thorndon Country Park approximately 6 miles towards the west of Basildon. The highlight of this park is the ancient deer park that dates back to the 15th century and it has been labeled as a site of special scientific interest. Horse riding is permitted in this park, however it must be remembered to restrict oneself to the regions marked by blue arrows. If a day ticket is bought, fishing is permissible.
Upminster Tithe Barn and Agricultural Folk Museum
The Upminster Tithe Barn and Agricultural Folk Museum is situated almost 8 miles towards the west of Basildon. Here, there are a range of rooms that date back to the Victorian times to the 1930s. Agricultural machinery, Stanmore Railway and Whitefriars Glass are exhibited here. All these displays are places in a moated manor house and a 16th century tithe barn.
