Tourist Guide Batley:

Located  within the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees in the West Yorkshire. The city is situated to the 7 miles southeast of Bradford and 7 miles southwest of Leeds. The name Batley is been derived from Danish which means valley.

The city has a large population of Asian Muslim community. The population of the city is 43,000.

The pop singer Robert Palmer was born in this city, professional snooker player Paul Hunter also lived in Batley before his death, also the author of the Asian liverbird book – Mohammad Bhana has lived his entire life here.

During late 19th century the town was a trade center for shoddy trade, which produced blankets, carpets, uniforms. This is when the city had a major growth in its history. The city has started declining in the recent times.

The city is well known for the sport – rugby and it has a professional Rugby League Club named Batley Bulldogs. The city is also a part of the European Union Transformation Zone.

Great small town, with plenty to see and do. Lots of old history with some of the old mill buildings standing. Fantastic big cemetery which opened in 1866, well maintained and goos support group.
