Beaminster lies in the west Dorset district in the south west of England.

This small civil parish town has a population of 2,936 inhabitants. The town once prospered from the sale of rope and twine, wool cloth, sack cloth, shoe thread and sail cloth.

This charming little town is a wonderful place to enjoy the tranquillity of the surroundings with glorious walks, the hidden valley of Dorset, the historic vale of the Brit River and a number of restaurants, pubs, farmhouses and hotels to stay and shop and taste the local fare.

Being in the south west region of England the town has a maritime temperate climate which makes it pleasant throughout the year.  

The town has a few examples of noteworthy Georgian buildings and pretty cottages and most of the part of the town is a conservation area with more than two hundred buildings that are listed under it.

There are several small places worth visiting near the town including Melpash, Parnham and Mapperton. The annual nine day festival of music and art is popular in the town.
