Birkenhead lies along the banks of the Mersey River on the Wirral Peninsula which is opposite the city of Liverpool.

The town, which was previously agricultural rapidly developed as a sea port after the introduction of the steam powered ferry Mersey and became well known for its ship building activities.

The town has a huge population of 83,729. The Birkenhead Lake Provincial Park, which covers over two thousand acres of parkland and woods, encompasses a number of lakes and gardens.

People come her to enjoy camping, watch the wildlife and partake of the recreational activities besides the lake. The city lies in the transition zone between the wet coast and dry interior.

July and August are the warmest months and January and February are relatively cold. Rain is unpredictable through the year.
