First opened in 1893 and originally known as the Victoria Pier, the South Pier is cousin to Blackpool’s North and Central Piers. Located on the south Promenade on South Shore area, it is known for its numerous amusement and adrenalin pumping rides.
Where visitors visit the North Pier for shopping and the Central Pier for its famous Legends tribute shows, the South Pier brings in the younger generation for simple family fun. The Pier contains numerous rides that include Dodgems, Crazy Mouse and a Waltzer, the Laughing Donkey Family Bar, a Kiddies Ride Arena and an Adrenaline Zone, which has a Skycoaster (a free falling swing), Skyscreamer (a reverse bungee ride), and a Maxibounce trampoline.
In 2010 there were new development plans for the South Pier to have a new bowling alley, a soft play area, a food court, an American-style pool lounge and a seaview bar.
The Pier is open every year from March to November. For more information, call 01253 343 097.
