Bolsover castle

It was constructed in the 12th century by the Peverel family, which later in 1155, was attached to the property of the crown. This is a wonderful place to wander around; the audio tours and the self guided tours are very helpful. The areas which attract maximum tourists are the spectacular views from the terrace of the range, the vaulted chambers, the Little Castle which has an elaborate fireplace, the wall paintings and the former riding manor.

Clumber Park

The site was a former residence of Dukes of Newcastle, the house was demolished in 1938, and its 3800 acres of parkland is existent. The parkland is inclusive of rolling farmlands and peaceful woods. The vital features of the ancient estate are still seen like the gothic temples, bridges, lakes an wonderful gothic Revival Chapel Of St. Mary and the garden becomes complete with the magnificent glasshouses.

Hardwick Hall

This hall was designed by Robert Smysthon for the Dowager Countess of Shrewsbury, Elizabeth; she was popular as Bess of Hardwick. This is one of the finest examples of the Elizabethan style of architecture in Britain. The Hall is set in notable parkland, rare breeds of sheep and cattle roam here. A short walk from Hardwick Hall is the striking ruin of "Hardwick Old Hall”, this is the birth residence of Bess and lived for the first twelve years of her life.
