The village is of special architectural and historic interest with many of the buildings being listed in the National Heritage site. The buildings are mostly of a traditional design. The village facilities include a post office, church and a hall with a regular bus service operating to Nottingham and Derby. Staunton Harold Church near Breaston is a grade I listed building, which was built in 1653 with fine paneled interiors. It is set in attractive parkland, and its interior retains the original 18th century cushions, carved woodwork and painted ceilings.
The nearest tourist attractions in the surroundings include Elvaston Castle Country Park, Belper River Gardens and Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery. The most interesting cities in the surroundings are Church Wilne, Risley, Draycott and New Sawley.
