Tourist Guide Burnley
Burnley is a city in England and is a large market town in the borough of Burnley in Lancashire, England. It has a population of around 73,000 according to the UK census 2001. This town lies 11 miles east of Blackburn and 25 miles east of Preston in a natural three forked valley at the confluence of the River Brun and the River Calder. The racial composition includes 91.77%25 White and 7.16%25 Asian or Asian British.
Burnley was a small market town during the early medieval period until its expansion during the Industrial Revolution as it became the largest producer of the cotton cloth. Today, the public sector in Burnley is the town’s largest employer. In 1972 under the Local Government Act of Burnley’s county borough status was abolished, and was incorporated with the neighboring areas into the non-metropolitan district of Burnley.
