One of the most prominent attractions in the city is the Canterbury Cathedral which is also among the oldest and most popular structures of England. The St. Augustine’s Abbey is an ancient ruin of an abbey. This important monastic foundation was a grand cathedral. Home to various royal nobles in the past, today it is a major historic landmark.
England’s most ancient church which is still in use is the Church of St. Martin, instrumental in making Canterbury a World Heritage Site. The splendid architecture displayed in the church is a blend of Roman and Anglo-Saxon styles.
Promoting the friendly image of the region is the annual Herne Bay Festival which features various family oriented events like musical concerts, competitions, talent hunts and children’s workshops.
Also the Canterbury Film Festival is the most prominent international film festival of the region. This lively event consists of screenings, theatre and an awards show.
