Why not visit Dunstable and see for yourself what the town has to offer. If you are a group organiser and your group is passing through or has some time to spare, the Tourist Information Centre at Priory House has an excellent selection of information on various places to visit. Priory House also offers delicious lunches and teas in historic surroundings. Lunch/tea, a talk and a guided tour of historic Dunstable can be arranged, so it's not all gloom and doom as far as Dunstable is concerned and you'll be surprised what an enjoyable visit it will be.

Dunstable is a place I only go to if I really have to. Dunstable lacks everything a shopper would look for. The "shopping centre" is full of closed shops, and the shops that are open offer very limited choice. The traffic in Dunstable is terrible at peak times(morning, lunchtime, evening). I once counted 18 sets of traffic lights from the junction with Houghton rd to the Nissan garage (which is now closed!). Baffling! It is a real shame because Dunstable is so full of history but Central Beds council and the Highways agency seem to think that putting up some hanging baskets and agreeing to the ... More building of a guided busway to Luton will revitalise this town. WRONG. Mary Portis came to Dunstable a few years ago to try to help and even she gave up! Unfortunately Dunstable is a town that people just drive through. It doesnt look very attractive and there is an air of defeat about it. Everytime I have been there another shop has closed and the "For sale or To let" signs keep going up. The rents are too high and businesses cant make any money. If anyone reads this and has any influence in the future of Dunstable PLEASE build the bypass, a proper shopping centre which can compete with MK,set affordable rents and encourage the large retailers (Marks, Debenhams, etc) and the small retailers to the town. Improve the parking, accessability, leisure and cafe facilities and maybe things may start to improve. Good Luck.
