Tourist Guide Hazel Grove

Hazel Grove, a village in Metropolitan Borough of Stockport in England, is close to the Peak District national park. Historically, the village was a part of Cheshire and until 1836, it was known as the Bullock Smithy. However, this name was not quite popular with its residents and the settlement was done with the name Hazel Grove which is due to a large number of hazel trees that were found in the locale.

Early history shows that this beautiful town was amalgamation of 3 separate townships, namely Torkington, Bosden-cum-Handforth and Norbury. Until the 17th century, the area came to be known by their respective townships. In 1834, the Church of St. Thomas was blessed at Norbury.  At present, most of the village residents work outside the village.
