Leicester Abbey was founded in 1138 and it became one of the most significant Augustinian monasteries in medieval England. It is also one of the least known Midland monasteries due to the total destruction of the buildings and archives after its dissolution in 1538. This historic monument is now part of Abbey Park, which was laid out in 1877.
