London Travel Guide

Useful information to visit London. City Guide by travelers.

London is one of the best cities in Europe and it always ranks as one of the world's top destinations. It is also England's capital, but there is much more related to this amazing city. Using our London travel guide you can easily discover useful information about places to visit in London, attractions, maps and other interesting aspects about the city. During the year London is an ocean of black umbrellas due to its rainy weather, but this aspect doesn’t penalize it from being an extremely fascinating city of more than 2,000 years of history. Nowadays London is an uber-cool city, but it remains history-steeped. For example you can easily drop in on Buckingham Palace, enjoy yourself in Pollock's Victorian toy museum and suddenly get Beatle-ized at Abbey Road just in time to get a picture in front of the famous road of rock-and-roll. From a touristic point of view, there are plenty of things and attractions to sightsee in London. In our fantastic London Guide you can for example find a lot of information about how to get to the London Eye or tothe Victoria & Albert museum. You can visit the world-famous British Museum which exhibits the works of artists from prehistoric to modern times, from all around the world. Wondering around the crowning glory of Trafalgar Square you will easily find the London's National Gallery. It is a vast space filled with Western European paintings from the 13th to the 19th centuries and it is one of the most beautiful art galleries in the world. If you like for example celebrities and your dream has always been to take a picture with some of the most famous people of the world, you cannot miss to visit Madame Tussauds. At this museum, you'll come face-to-face with some of the world's most famous faces. From Shakespeare to Lady Gaga, you'll have to possibility to meet people from showbiz, sport, politics and even royalty. Take a funny picture with Madonna or with a famous football player.Discover all these attractions and much more information inside Placesonline's London Travel Guide.

I've visited London several times since the 90s. I've stayed only in the Bayswater area as there are lots of B&B and apartments for rent readily available. Transport is easily available, tubes, buses and taxis. There are two tube stations (the underground) namely Queensway and Bayswater stations. The ever popular Hyde park is only a short walking distance.

I would definitely recommend the hop on-hop off bus. You see all the top attractions. Ride the whole lop first, listen to the commentary, then on the se cond loop hop off to visit what interested you on the first loop. Do the Jack the Jack the Ripper walking tour-super. You see where the murders occurred, get a drink in one of the pubs... See Greenich from the boat cruise, get off, and visit the sights of Greenich

Plenty to do for every age and caters for every interest. History on every corner, culture it's bursting with it. Tradition and modern meet. With children there are fun things as well as educational things. Incredible architecture again from the most modern to building centries old. Travelling in London is easy by underground (fast an efficient) bus or taxi. Even hire a bike at one end and leave it at another part of London when you are finished with it. Food to suit every pocket from sandwich to the fineat dining in the world.

Would definitely take the Jack the Ripper tour-truly fun and most informative. You walk Jack's path, and even go to s pub for s beet/drink. The hop on/hop off bus is s must for seeing the top sights. Do a 2 day pass, at least, if possible. Go to Leichester square to get a half price theater ticket, and see a show. Consult guide books for the top attractions, but read about London before visiting.

There's something for everyone! For sports items you have to go to Lillywhites in Piccadilly Circus, you get great deals! For the rest, if you aim for local brands, you find prices that we dream of here in Italy! You have to stop at in Primark, the shops of Covent Garden and Camden town!

I stayed at Holliday Inn near the "Gloucester" metro station. It's great for sightseeing, it might not be cheap but it's good quality, close to Kensington where the Science Museum is. The metro 200 metres away takes you to the centre in 25 minutes.

No trouble, the Underground is perfect, it's just a little complicated on the first day, then it's fine. Great hotel, the staff were friendly and helpful with useful tips for visits. The catering was so so, however, considering that I don't speak English I managed fine.

It's a big city, but it's safe. Public transport is useful for getting around. There are many things to see and if you manage to walk around the centre on foot, although it's big, you can enjoy it better. It might be practical to take a taxi for groups. As for food, I advise you to grab snacks, there are too many things to see and time is short.

It's a wonderful city, I recommend it to couples or families with children. The transport is exceptional, especially the underground that allows you to reach the whole city in a few minutes. For shopping there's plenty of choice: from markets to very large shopping centres. It's very expensive, but well worth a visit at least once in your life!

London weather is quite cold during the winter and rather variable during the rest of the year. Even though the temperatures are quite low, I recommend wearing layered clothing because in indoors the heating is on very high. In spring and summer the climate varies greatly, so also during these times it's a good idea to dress in layers.

Accommodation in London is horribly expensive compared with other mega cities; NYC, LA, Toronto to mention a few and horribly out of range compared with Far East cities. In a nutshell, accommodation in London is highly exploitative. Accommodation in London appears to be aimed at stripping the tourist of all and certainly dos not compliment the wide range of services that the city offers tourist.

Westfield and Oxford street are the best 2 places for shopping, especially the branded ones. Love this place and will continue to visit often especially for shopping. You can find a wide range of souvenirs shops all over the city. London is one of the best places not for only shopping but of course for its culture, history and architecture. You can't miss the London Eye, Madame Tussaud, The London Zoo and Off course the city river cruise.

You have to try Fish and Chips! You can't not try Starbucks (the strawberry tea is much better than the coffee ... for us Italians it's vital that coffee be short!) And Pret-a-Mange: the swathes of colours and combinations will hypnotize you!

The food is terrible, go to some foreign restaurant or cook your own food! You can try Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indian, but avoid the Italian restaurants and pizza, they're too expensive and really bad. I recommend having picnics and organising your meals well if you don't want to end up spending £10 for a meal that doesn't fill your stomach disappoints you.

I went to London twice, the first time in March, and it was freezing, it was really windy, so you need a wind jacket, hat and scarf and of course an umbrella! The second time was in May, the sun shone the whole 5 days. I was fine in a short-sleeved shirt, but if you want to go out at night or take a ride on the Thames it's best to bring a sweatshirt or sweater!

I recommend going at the end of August, at the most mid-September, this way you'll find the city free of summer holiday-makers and the weather is still pleasant. Always bring a jacket, even a light one, because it always rains. I know this from personal experience.
