Tourist Guide Newbiggin-by-the-Sea
Newbiggin-by-the-sea is a small town in Northumberland, England lying on the North Sea Coast. Once an important port for shipping grain and a coal mining town, it is still a fishing port making use of traditional coble boats. The area to the north is known as the Northumbrian Heritage Coast and boasts miles after miles of exquisite beaches, bays and lovely seaside villages, including Craster, Ainmouth and seahouses. The country has over fifty of the country’s finest historic castles, such as Bamburgh, Alnwick and Lindisfarne on holy Island.
Newbiggin by the sea has a long and interesting history. The area has a wide variety of archeological features that take date back to the earliest of times. A large number of Mesolithic flint tools have been fund in Newbiggin bay. According to the 2000 census, the population of Newbiggin–by-the-sea is 7,100.
