Newton Abbot, England: Where is, history and other tourist information to visit this place.

Tourist Guide Newton Abbot

Newton Abbey lies on the Teign River in the South West of England in Devon.

This market town has a huge population of 23,580 as per the 2001 survey. Previously the town had its own wool and cloth industry with a number of wool millers, weavers, tailors, spinners and dyers which existed in the town along with the leather industry for six hundred years after the Second World War.

Later there was considerable increase in trade between the town and the cod fisheries off Newfoundland thus creating a steady source of income from this trade. Newton Abbey has a maritime temperate climate which is typical of the southwest regions of England.

This makes the weather pleasant all through the year. The racecourse, parks and excellent rail and road connections are what make the place popular with tourists.
