Newton Abbot: Attractions and more...

St. Leonard’s Tower lies in the centre of the town and is a part of the St. Leonard church which was built in 1350.

Near the tower is a memorial of the Prince of Orange namely William III who stayed in the Forde House as he passed through it on his way to London to take the throne in England.

The Forde House was built in 1610 by Sir Richard Raynell and has an E-shaped floor plan. The Bradley Manor is a thirteenth century manor house which is under the possession of the National Trust.

The property is set in a beautiful surrounding woodland and has a natural hollow called Puritan Pit where the non conformists once held secret meetings to avoid being persecuted.

Near the centre of the town is a traditional malt house called Tucker’s Maltings, which offers guided tours to visitors who would like to know more about the beer brewing procedure.
