You can see the ‘most complete collection of medieval wall paintings in England’ at Pickering Church

Situated in an attractive position on the edge of the moors is Pickering Castle which holds exhibitions in the chapel accompanied by family activities and books. It is a perfect example of an early earthwork castle that was refortified in stone later.

The second-largest heritage railway line of the UK is the North York Moors Railway. Trains run daily on this 18-mile line from mid-March to early November. Passenger numbers have reached 300,000 in the past few years.

Housed in a Regency residence is the Beck Isle Museum that contains a collection of items related to rural craft, local life and customs as well as social and domestic life. It also displays a large selection of photographs from the Sidney Smith collection.

Other visitor and attractions in Pickering are Dalby Forest, Cawthorn camps. Helmsley Castle and Dumcombe Park.
