Tourist Guide Ponteland
The village of Ponteland is located in Castle Morpeth, Northumberland in Northeast England. The meaning of the place is island in the Pont as the village is surrounded by a marshland and consists of small solid ground around the St. Mary’s Church and also an old bridge. The Pont River flows through the village and merges with the Blyth River eventually. The area is well known for its various churches, Pele Tower, its bridge and the Diamond Inn. It is also well known as an affluent area called Darras Hall. A small castle was also located in the region which the Scottish army destroyed during the reign of Earl of Douglas.
The parish boasts a total population of 10,871. The North eastern Railway serves the place through one of its branch line. But the line failed in 1929 as the number of passengers travelling through the line was really less than as was expected. A major chunk of the line has now been rebuilt and forms a part of the Tyne and Wear Metro system.
