Tourist Guide Ripley

Ripley is a town in the Amber Valley area of Derbyshire in England. Since the late 18th century the city area has been industrialized. The Butterley Company was the earliest company to take advantage of the mineral resources around Ripley. Many steelworks, coal mining, quarrying, railway, foundry, brickworks companies emerged since the last 200 years.

According to the census the population of the town is around 21,097 people. The 2966 yard long Butterley Tunnel for the Cromford Canal was constructed under the premises of the Butterley Company. The city is home to the Midland Railway Butterley a steam preservation trust, dedicated to preserving locomotives related to the Midland Railway. On the outskirts of Ripley at the Butterley Hall the Headquarters of the Derbyshire Constabulary is located. Reputed to be the oldest church in town the Methodist Church is still active today. Ripley is also home to the local radio station Amber Sound FM.
