With lakes, a pond, stunning woodland walks and a wealth of wildlife, Shipley Country Park occupies a landscape of superb countryside in Ripley. It is a joyous place, with aspects to please everyone. In the rolling countryside a wealth of wildlife including Canada Geese can be seen and the water is allowed for fishing. The park contains over 18 miles of peaceful bridleways. It is an idyllic place for rambling, fishing, birdwatching, horse riding, cycling, or simply for flying a kite.
The Derby Museum and Art Gallery, housed in an impressive building of modern times gives visitors a fascinating insight into Derby’s history and heritage. There are many magnificent pieces including superb clocks by John Whitehurst. A gallery dedicated to archaeology showcases findings from the stone-age to the middle-ages, with important Anglo-Saxon relics and a splendid sarcophagus. There is also the fascination of two Egyptian mummies.
